Babelio 26-43 inch auto close baby and dog gate (Boundless B17), black
A sturdy no bar stair gate for homes that can drill, with a fussy install and latch.
The short version
- Homes that need a gate at the top of stairs
- Families with a toddler and a dog who walk the same hallway
- Anyone tired of stepping over a gate's bottom bar
- You cannot drill into your walls, such as in a rental
- The opening has a curved wall, a round banister or angled sides
- You need an opening wider than 43 inches (Babelio sells a wider version)
What owners like
- Sturdy, solid feel once installed
- No bar to trip over when carrying a baby or laundry
- Works for keeping both children and dogs out
- Clean look
Common complaints
- Instructions are vague and installation takes care to get level
- The latch needs a lift to open, which some find awkward one handed
- Latch can fail to catch if the mounts are not aligned

What it does
A steel, hardware mounted baby and pet gate with no bottom bar that fits openings 26 to 43 inches wide, now shown on Babelio's site as the Boundless B17.
- No bottom bar, so there is nothing to step over in the walkway
- Door swings shut and latches by itself unless held open at 90 degrees
- Brackets can be mounted higher on a flat wall section to clear decorative baseboards
- Comes with screws, spacer blocks and double stick tape on the hinges and latch for positioning
- Sold for both babies and pets
A good fit for the top of stairs or a busy hallway where a bar to step over is a trip risk, and for homes with both a toddler and a dog. The trade-off is installation: it must be drilled into flat, parallel walls, and the latch needs a lift to open.

Worth knowing
- Babelio says both mounting surfaces must be flat, parallel and vertical, and the gate is not suitable for curved surfaces or angled openings.

- Babelio's pages read for this page did not state ASTM or JPMA certification or an age range.
Questions
Does the Babelio no bottom bar gate need drilling?
Yes. It is hardware mounted, and Babelio says the screws are what allow the no bar design.
Can the Babelio gate go at the top of stairs?
Babelio markets this hardware mounted model for the top of stairs. Pressure mounted gates are not meant for that spot.
Does the Babelio gate stay open?
Yes. It holds open at 90 degrees, and closes and latches by itself from other positions.
Will it work with baseboards?
Babelio says the brackets can be mounted higher on a flat section of wall to clear decorative baseboards.
