D-Link DHP-W611AV PowerLine AV2 1000 Wi-Fi AC1200 Starter Kit
A simple powerline Wi-Fi kit for a dead zone, now discontinued and a generation behind.
The short version
- Homes where a router's Wi-Fi does not reach a back bedroom, garage or basement office
- Renters who cannot run Ethernet cable through walls
- You want a new kit with a warranty and current support
- You need Wi-Fi 6 speeds or more than one wired device in the far room
- Your outlets are on a different electrical system or you would have to use a power strip
What owners like
- Plug and play setup
- Passthrough socket keeps the outlet usable
- Good coverage and reliable connection across a home
- Clear, easy web settings on the Wi-Fi adapter
Common complaints
- Real speed depends on your wiring and on noisy appliances, which D-Link's own fine print warns about
- Only one Ethernet port on each adapter, so a second wired device needs a switch
Based on D-Link's product page and data sheet, the RedesZone hands-on review and The Tech Revolutionist launch coverage. Little owner feedback for this discontinued kit could be found, and no measured speed results were published in the coverage read..

What it does
A discontinued two-adapter kit that carries your internet over home electrical wiring and puts out dual-band Wi-Fi and a wired port in another room.
- Plug one adapter in near the router and the other in the room that needs a signal
- Simple Connect button pairs the adapters and sets up WPS
- Passthrough socket on the router side adapter so you do not lose the outlet
- Quality of Service, IPv6 support and web browser setup on the Wi-Fi adapter
- Power saving mode
A reasonable way to get internet into a room your router's Wi-Fi does not reach, without running cable, if you can find one used. D-Link no longer sells it, its Wi-Fi is the older Wi-Fi 5 standard with one Ethernet port per adapter, and the 1000 Mbps powerline figure is a link rate that real homes will not reach.

Questions
Is the D-Link DHP-W611AV discontinued?
Yes. D-Link's product page says it is no longer available for purchase.
Does the DHP-W611AV really reach 1000 Mbps?
No. D-Link states the 1000 Mbps figure is a theoretical PHY rate and that wiring, network traffic and noisy devices such as vacuums and hair dryers lower real throughput.
Can the DHP-W611AV go in a power strip?
D-Link recommends plugging the adapters straight into a wall outlet, because a power strip or surge protector can hurt performance.
Does it work with other powerline brands?
Both adapters follow the HomePlug AV2.1 standard. D-Link's fine print notes that devices which do not follow HomePlug AV2 can cause interference.
