Murata LR1130 (LR54, AG10) Alkaline Button Cell, 10 pack

A well documented LR54 alkaline cell for toys and gadgets, less suited to watches.

We bought NANFU LR54 / AG10 / 189 / LR1130 1.5V Alkaline Coin Cell Batteries, 10 Pack. It's no longer documented anywhere, so this page reviews the closest well-covered match. It is the same LR54 alkaline button cell in a 10 pack from a maker that publishes a data sheet and safety sheet for it.

The short version

Buy it if
  • Households replacing cells in calculators, toys, sound books and laser pointers
  • Anyone who wants a named brand LR54 cell with a published spec sheet
Skip it if
  • You are replacing a watch battery and want silver oxide
  • The device maker calls for an SR1130, 389 or 390 cell
  • There are young children in the home and no locked place to store spare cells

What owners like

  • Named maker with a published data sheet and safety data sheet, unlike most unbranded multipacks
  • Standard LR54 size fits the wide range of gadgets that use AG10 cells

Common complaints

  • Alkaline LR1130 cells hold less charge than silver oxide 389 and 390 cells
  • Voltage falls off faster as an alkaline cell drains, which can upset sensitive devices

Based on Murata's LR1130 data sheet and its alkaline battery safety data sheet, the Amazon listing title and a Battery Equivalents guide to LR1130 sizes. No independent test of this exact pack was found, so themes reflect LR1130 alkaline cells in general..

Research scores

Performance 7.0 70 mAh nominal and stable pulse output, but below silver oxide cells
Build quality 7.5 Japanese made, mercury free, with maker stated leak resistance
Ease of use 8.0 standard LR54 size with clear cross references to AG10 and 189
Value 7.0 10 named brand cells, though alkaline cells drain faster than silver oxide

What it does

A 10 pack of 1.5 volt alkaline button cells in the LR1130 size, also sold as LR54, AG10 and 189, made in Japan by Murata; reviewed here in place of the NANFU 10 pack it matches.

  • Made in Japan, with 0% mercury per Murata's data sheet
  • Murata states stable output during high drain pulses
  • Sealing design that Murata says resists leakage
  • Murata lists calculators, toys, thermometers and other small medical devices as uses
  • Same size as cells sold as AG10, 189, LR54 and L1131

A good pick for calculators, toys, laser pointers and small gadgets that take an LR54 or AG10 cell, from a maker that publishes a full data sheet and safety sheet. The trade-off is the usual one for alkaline cells: less capacity and a faster voltage drop than silver oxide 389 or 390 cells, which suit watches better.

Worth knowing

  • Murata states that swallowing a battery can be harmful and the contents of an opened battery can cause serious chemical burns of the mouth, esophagus and gut. If a battery is swallowed, do not induce vomiting or give food or drink, and seek medical attention immediately.
  • Murata says children should not replace batteries without adult supervision. Keep new and used cells out of children's reach.
  • Murata warns not to short, heat, solder, burn, take apart or recharge the cells, and not to mix old and new or different types.
  • Store spare cells so they cannot touch each other or metal objects, per Murata, and tape or separate the terminals before disposal.

Questions

Is LR1130 the same as LR54 and AG10?

Yes. Murata's data sheet lists LR54 as the IEC name for its LR1130, and AG10 and 189 are other names for the same 11.6 by 3.05 mm alkaline size.

Can LR54 replace a 389 or 390 battery?

It fits the same space, but 389 and 390 are silver oxide cells with more capacity and steadier voltage, so they are the better choice for watches.

Are Murata batteries the same as Sony?

Murata took over Sony's battery business, and retailers list these cells as formerly Sony.

How should spare cells be stored?

Murata advises a cool, dry place at about 50 to 77°F, out of sunlight, and not loose in a container where cells can touch each other or metal.
